Spring Bunny

I am always the first one ready for Christmas AND the first one so ready for SPRING!   Snow is still on the ground but I can already smell the tulips!

Nothing says spring to me more than new sprouts of flowers peeking out of the ground and BUNNIES!  And this bunny had quite the transformation!  You can make it for only $1.25!

Watch the whole tutorial on YouTube here

This is what Mr. BunBun looked like before his extreme makeover.  He comes in multiple colours, like purple, blue and yellow, so pick whichever one makes you the most happy and skedaddle home to start your project.

This will come in two pieces, a front and a back.  It’s a bit tricky getting it all to line up well, but it will click into place once you do.  I thought I might have needed glue, but it snapped together tight, so no glue was necessary.

Using chalk paint, give the whole thing a good coat.  I like to apply thin coats of chalk paint, so I needed two coats.  If your chalk paint is thicker, one coat may do the trick.  Be sure to apply your paint with your brushstrokes all going in the same direction, head to tail.

Once you’re done, it will look like this.  Doesn’t it look like a chocolate bunny??  It would be super cute left like this with a necktie or bow around it’s neck, but it wasn’t the look I was going for.

Using a dry-brushing technique, dry brush the entire bunny with different colours of paint.  Keep in mind, whichever paint colours you choose will show through at the end.  (Dry-brushing is a simple technique used to highlight already painted surfaces.  Gently load your paintbrush, then dab off the excess and gently run your brush over the surface, leaving a light coat.)

I did a layer of gray, a layer of light blue and a final layer of linen white.

Using a light pink acrylic paint, I did a dry-brushing over the ears.

Using a small piece of pink craft foam, I cut a small triangle and hot glued it to the centre of the face for it’s nose.

Then I added the eyes.  Making perfect circles with paint is difficult, so I usually use something with a rounded end, dipped in paint to dab on perfectly round circles for eye.  This works well for polka-dots too!  In this case, I used the end of a small hot glue stick… it was the perfect size!

Using a small paintbrush, I painted on a very simple mouth.  Here’s where your creativity can run wild.  Add lips, whiskers, eyelashes, teeth, whatever you want!  I kept it simple for this one.

How can you NOT fall in LOVE with that face?? Adorable!  Just need to add a bow and find him a home.  I think I’ll place him near a window so he can watch spring arrive. 🙂

Isn’t that bow the CUTEST??  Super simple and quick to make.  Learn how to make your own here.
